Our Services – Performing Artists

Whether you are a dancer, a musician an actor or other performing artist, you know you need specialized care from therapists who’ve been there. At Polestar Pilates Center, you’ll discover that and more.

Performing Arts.

The performing arts program specializes in treating the unique needs of the performing artist. Polestar Pilates Center assists performing artists in the management and prevention of injuries, which enhances their ability to perform. Physical therapists are specially trained to examine and evaluate the musculoskeletal system and how the body moves (biomechanics) during musical performance. This can involve many aspects, such as spinal alignment, joint flexibility, or specific joint placement to manage existing injuries, as well as instruction in effective prevention techniques to avoid further problems.

Dance Medicine.

Polestar Pilates Center in Coral Gables, Florida plays an active role in the performance enhancement, injury prevention and rehabilitation of the injured dancer. The dance medicine team consists of the physician, physical therapist, massage therapist, dance educator and many alternative and holistic practitioners. Physical therapy has been identified as the predominant form of intervention in the majority of professional, collegiate and studio dance-related injuries. The majority of injuries associated with dance are thought to be due to cumulative trauma, such as tendonitis and strains to the muscles and ligaments.

The physical therapist and the dance educator combined are the most qualified team to examine and assess faulty movement and to treat the majority of dance-related injuries using manual skills, movement education and various modalities.

Music Medicine.

Treatment of the musician requires a therapist that has been specially trained in working with the delicate and unique injuries of the musician. Dr. Anderson has been working with musicians for more than 18 years and served as the president of the Performing Arts Special Interest Group of the American Physical Therapy Association. Polestar Pilates Center Miami plays an active role in the performance enhancement, injury prevention and rehabilitation of the injured musician. Common injuries experienced by musicians include repetitive strains to tendons, muscles and ligaments, often in the shoulder, hand, neck and upper body. These injuries are frequently due to improper practice techniques, heavy rehearsal/performance schedules and faulty postures.
