Kathleen Bower is a Physical Therapist who specializes in orthopedic management of dance and performing arts injuries. Dr. Bower’s practice focuses on manual physical therapy intervention and neuromuscular re-education using Pilates-based rehabilitation.
Dr. Bower is a California native who transferred coasts in 2011 to begin her career with Polestar Physical Therapy and Pilates Center. She graduated from California State University Long Beach with a bachelor’s degree in Dance Science. Having struggled with dance-related injuries herself, she first encountered Pilates-based rehabilitation at the CSU Long Beach Dance Clinic and soon found a love for helping dancers return to the stage. Dr. Bower pursued and completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and Manual Therapy Certification at The University of St. Augustine for Health Science and was awarded Outstanding Physical Therapy Student.
Dr. Bower’s career is dedicated to teaching dancers about healthy movement and returning them to full performance condition. She has been integral in growing the Polestar Dance Medicine program that now treats Miami City Ballet, Dance Now Miami, the dance division of New World School of the Arts, and Thomas Armour Youth Ballet. She is an active member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, the Dance USA-Task force for Dancer Health, and the Performing Arts Section of the American Physical Therapy Association. She has presented her research at national and international conferences on dance medicine rehabilitation.
